The Gabbeh is an ancient Persian weaving, with an ethnic,
tribal nature reminiscent of the Persian nomadic style. Most are
sparse in design, with minimal pattern often consisting of characters.
The handspun yarns and natural dyes of the Gabbeh, along with the
use of bright colors, make it a whimsical choice, ideal for the
eclectic rug collector. The characters and colors in most Gabbeh
rugs make it a perfect choice for less formal spaces, and childrens
rooms. Gabbehs are usually asymmetrical, tending to be more
square than rectangle. Today, India and Turkey are the prime weavers
of the Gabbeh, with Pakistani weavers just starting to get into
the market with their own unusual designs.
