Sultanabad

Sultanabad rugs originate from one of the five largest principal rug-weaving areas in Iran. The city of Sultanabad, in West Central Iran, is now called Arak. Known for their beauty and durability, the Sultanabad is usually a medium length pile using excellent wool. Similar to a Mahal, the Sultanabad or Arak rug is characterized by all over floral designs with rosettes, tulips and palmettes. Some are angular and geometric and can even have a center medallion.
